Used Car Loan - Financing for your New Car
Getting a
used car loan is a great way to get your first car, or an additional car for another family member. On other hand, applying for a
refinancing auto loan is a fantastic way of paying off an existing
auto
loan, so you can pay at a lower interest and save more money on your monthly payments. Here a couple of ways to make these
loans work to your advantage.
Used Car Loan - Make it Work for You
Some people may think that having to pay a lower monthly amortization is helpful. Think again. Compute what all those payments will amount to and how much the total interest will be. If you get a
loan with a longer term and lower monthly payment, you will notice that you'll be paying more in interest in the long run. That's why ideally, you shouldn't get a
loan with a
loan term of more than 36 months. Same thing holds true with
used car financing. Paying a lower down payment means paying more in amortization and interest, so if you can wait, save more money for your car down payment so you would have less to worry about in terms of monthly payments.
Also part of being an informed buyer is shopping for lenders. Start with your bank or credit union, where you already have a relationship with, or research on a wide variety of lenders available online. Look into the company's background to protect yourself from fakers and scammers. Also check on their existing partnerships with car dealership. This is definitely a better way to go instead of getting your
used car financing from dealerships, where you might have less options. Be aware of each lender's terms and conditions, especially with regard to pre-payment penalties. This means paying a penalty should you decide to pay more than the monthly amortization or pay the remaining balance off in advance. Read their terms and conditions very carefully because some say that there are companies who do not use the term "penalty." And of course, don't hesitate to ask questions if there's anything you find unclear or vague until you understand everything.
